PHYSICAL and MENTAL HEALTH

The objective of the Physical and Mental Health Committee is to educate and facilitate lifestyle change for the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of our sorority sisters and community members. Cambridge Alumnae meets those objectives through the following programs:

-
Remembering the Mentally Disadvantaged - (Eastern Shore Hospital Center (ESHC) & Deer's Head)
-
Healthy Lifestyles - The Total Woman: Mind, Body, and Spirit -- Health Fair
Remembering the Mentally Disadvantaged - (Eastern Shore Hospital Center (ESHC) & Deer's Head)

Our objectives are to provide an opportunity for patients who have been hospitalized for drugs, alcohol, and/or mild mental disorders to socialize with others in an effort to help them bridge the gap between the institution and society and to provide some type of assistance for those patients who are socially, mentally, and physically impaired.

We plan projects between October and April at two facilities. Members of the chapter volunteer to take patients our for lunch, play games and attend other activities and meetings, when invited.
Healthy Lifestyles - The Total Woman: Mind, Body, and Spirit -- Health Fair

Cambridge Alumnaes encourage behavioral lifestyle changes for the physical, mental, and spiritual well-being of African American women and their families and to address the challenges associated with achieving personal health success.

We raise awareness on chronic illnesses that African American women have at a disproportionately higher rate than other groups. The Total Woman: Mind, Body, and Spirit is designed to inform and educate on topics such as: Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Breast/Cervical/Ovarian Cancer, Diabetes, HIV AIDS, Heart Disease and Obesity.

We partner with Health Departments, American Heart Association, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Regional Cancer Centers, and other groups in our geographical area. Additionally, we invite health professionals to lead workshops and seminars during the year to assist women in developing and maintaining healthy lifestyles.
